Integrated Child Development Services



The Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) scheme in Jharkhand is a comprehensive initiative aimed at improving the health, nutrition, and education of young children, pregnant women, and nursing mothers. This program is crucial in addressing the issues of malnutrition, infant mortality, and overall child development in the state.

Objectives of the ICDS
  • Nutritional Support - supplementary nutrition to children under six years of age, pregnant women, and nursing mothers.
  • Health Services - Offer health check-ups, immunizations, and referral services to improve overall health.
  • Early Childhood Education - preschool non-formal education for children aged 3-6 years.
  • Health and Nutrition Education - to mothers on health, nutrition, and childcare practices.


Supplementary Nutrition:
  • Provides menu based nutritious meals to children
  • Dry ration to pregnant women, and lactating mothers.
  • Addresses malnutrition and promotes all round growth and development.
  • Protects children from common childhood illnesses.


Immunization

Referral Services:
  • Identifies health issues and refers cases to appropriate health facilities.
  • Ensures timely medical intervention for serious conditions.


Pre - school Education:
  • Provides early childhood education at Anganwadi centers.
  • Preparing children for formal schooling and promotes cognitive development.


Health and Nutrition Education:
  • Education and counselling of mothers on health, hygiene, disease, nutrition, and childcare.
