- James Herenj started working in the social sector from 1994. He has worked actively for right to food, right to work, right to education, PESA, MNREGA. He is the founder member and Convenor of NREGAWATCH. He is lead course coordinator for training on audit, social accoutability, Spcl Task Force for Social Audit under CAG. He has been actively involved in advocacy for setting up 80 rojgar sahayta kendras in the state.He set up the first nsk in Chatarpur palamu in 2009 to help mnrega workers grievances and complaints. He has worked closely with noted economist dr. Jean Drez.
- Started his social life through J.P movement and has been actively involved in various social causes such as food security, MNREGA, Right to Information, health, right to education, and housing facilities for homeless people. He is the founder chairman of the "Jharkhand RTI" forum and a founding member of "Jharkhand MNREGA watch". He has worked as a state advisor to the Supreme Court commissioner on food security since 2005 and has been nominated as a member of the state level distribution cum vigilance committee (Food, PDS, and consumer affairs department, Jharkhand govt). He is also a nominated member in the Jharkhand state MNREGA council as an expert and is associated with Bharatiya Gyan Vigyan Samiti. He has provided training to officers and staff of various projects, including the Integrated Child Development Project, PDS, motherhood, child health and nutrition, MNREGA, Sahiya, Panchayati Raj, and local self-administration. Additionally, he has been involved in preparing the starvation protocol for Jharkhand state and supporting the drafting of PESA Rules.
